Weather Policy
In Spring, soccer and flag football are outdoor sports, and we expect to play in a variety of weather conditions, including light rain and colder temperatures. However, participant safety always comes first.
We do not play during thunderstorms or periods of heavy sustained rain. In the event of thunder, fields will remain closed until a minimum of 30 minutes has passed since the last rumble of thunder before activities resume.
During periods of extreme heat, we monitor not only the air temperature, but also humidity levels and on-field conditions. When temperature forecasts exceed 90 degrees, we evaluate conditions carefully before making decisions. Depending on the forecast and timing, we may cancel an entire evening, delay the start of activities, or modify the schedule to allow later games or practices to proceed safely.
If weather or other unforeseen circumstances force us to cancel games, practices, or events, we will make decisions as early as reasonably possible in order to provide families and teams with adequate notice.
- For indoor weekday programs impacted by snow or winter weather, we aim to make decisions by approximately 3:00 PM whenever possible.
- For outdoor programs, conditions can change rapidly, and decisions are often made on an hour-by-hour basis based on field and weather conditions.
Please note that school closures or cancellations do not automatically mean Adirondack Coast Sports programs will also be canceled. We evaluate conditions independently, including road conditions, field conditions, timing of storms, and updated weather data.
Our approach is rooted in common sense, local experience, and safety. Living on the Adirondack Coast means occasional snow, rain, and changing weather conditions are part of life and sports. We are comfortable operating in reasonable conditions, but we will always postpone or cancel activities when conditions become unsafe, particularly in cases of significant snowfall, icy travel conditions, lightning, or severe weather.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as weather decisions are made with the safety of players, families, coaches, officials, and staff as the top priority.
